During my time at the School of Information, I have had a variety of experiences which fall into two categories: research and collection development. I took several classes where I learned strategies and resources for conducting research. My time working at the University’s Policy Office contributed to my research and reference skills, utilizing databases as well as the Internet to provide information. These experiences have also allowed me to put present research properly. I have had several experiences in the development of collections as well. From digital collections to cataloging at ExxonMobil and managing special collections, I have covered the wide range of topics in managing library collections. From this, I have learned that my career goals include to be involved in managing collections of materials whether physical or digital and being involved in the organization and development of said collections. While my work background is in oil and gas materials, I’ve also had experience creating collections with and handling the following materials: personal papers, rare materials at the Harry Ransom Center, English literature, and company/university records. I continue to seek the perfect job to match my collection management and research skills.
